2010 ITOC conference to be held in Marlborough
Date: 13 August 2009

The next annual conference of the Inbound Tour Operators Council will be held in Marlborough in August 2010.

Paul Yeo, Chief Executive of ITOC said: “The decision was announced last night at the Gala Dinner on the final evening of the 2009 ITOC Conference held in Gisborne.”

“ITOC conferences traditionally alternate between the North and South Islands and we are delighted to be staging our first ever Marlborough conference. The 210 delegates at this year’s conference greeted the announcement with much enthusiasm so we know we’re going to get plenty of support.”

Destination Marlborough General Manager Tracy Johnston says “We are thrilled to be able to welcome ITOC members to Marlborough in August 2010.  Our region is centrally located at the top of the south island with rail, sea and air access making it easy for delegates from throughout the country to attend.”

She told delegates at the Gala Dinner that the recently opened purpose built Marlborough Convention Centre in Blenheim would play host to the conference

“We will have an ocean load of Greenshell Mussels and an almost endless supply of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc ready to share with our industry colleagues – you’re all going to love Marlborough,” she said.

Mr Yeo said that getting tourism operators to different parts of the country was a key part in educating them on the attractions and activities on offer.

“Marlborough has a fantastic reputation as a visitor destination and we know that Destination Marlborough will do a great job in ensuring that delegates from around New Zealand and overseas will see it at its very best.”

A date during August 2010 will be announced in the next few weeks.
