ITOC Joins PATA to Provide Global Perspective for Members
Date: 6 March 2008

The Inbound Tour Operators Council (ITOC) has joined the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) as an industry member. The move signals ITOC’s desire to improve its global networking and use PATA resources for the benefit of ITOC members.

Paul Yeo, chief executive of ITOC said: “In the last year we increased contact with PATA. We recognise the wealth of information they have at their disposal and the number of opportunities they can provide for our association and members.”

Mr Yeo said he was pleased to have Chris Flynn, PATA’s Regional Director-Pacific attend the ITOC Conference last August in the Bay of Islands along with the Chief Executive of the Australian Tourism Export Council, Matt Hingerty.

“It was refreshing for ITOC members to hear a global perspective on New Zealand’s tourism issues,” said Mr Yeo. “It is often easy to become insular. However, we learned that New Zealand’s tourism problems and opportunities are often shared by the global tourism community. As a result, we think it’s time we reached out as an organisation to open up possibilities for our members, whether that be participating at the annual PATA Travel Mart or accessing PATA’s vast research capabilities.”

Mr Flynn said that being distant from major tourism markets had been a “blessing and a curse” for New Zealand. “The important thing is that its tourism operators stay ahead of global trends and keep innovating and networking to source new opportunities. PATA is here to help them do that.”
